DIY: Chunky Golden Necklace

The first post  on Jar of Handmade this year is dedicated to my new favorite necklace!
As always, scroll down to see how I made it and be inspired to make something as unique for yourself:)

Unfortunately, I didn't calculate how much of the supply you will need but let's just say you'll need A LOT of golden colored beads (the bigger the better) and a few black beads, black embroidery floss and black ribbon.

Step one 1: Knot 4 strings of embroidery floss together and glue the end with sticky tape on a table. As you see in the picture, I used one string of thin ribbon instead of embroidery floss. Why? I didn't have enough embroidery floss so I improvised:).

Step 2: Start braiding a braid with 4 strings. After braiding two or three times, slip a golden bead through each string and then braid again. Repeat the steps until you have a 80 cm braid. When the strings get short, just extend them by tying a new piece of floss on the short string. When you're done, make another 80 cm braid! You need TWO:)

In the picture below you see the ends of the two braids. One end is yellowish because, again, I didn't have enough black embroidery floss so I used yellow instead.

Step: 3: Fold a braid in half and wrap one end of the braid around the other. Repeat the same with the other braid. It's already getting chunky.

Step 4: To make it ultimately chunky, wrap the two braids around each other. The single chunky braid should be approximately 35 cm long.

Step 5: Take two pieces of ribbon and slip golden beads through them. They should be 80 cm long each. Leave about 20 cm at the ends of the ribbon. Tie one pieces of ribbon to one end of the chunky braid. Twist the ribbon around the braid and tie the other end of the ribbon to the other end of the bead. Repeat the same with he other piece of ribbon.

Step 6: You will now have two ends of ribbon at each end of the braid. Slip black beads through the pieces of ribbon and then tie them together. Voila!

I hope you like it!

Love,
Emina
