DIY/Recipe: Christmas Cookies Card

Dear readers,

Merry Christmas and happy New Year!

For this special holiday season I thought of something festive: the ultimate Christmas & New Year's card with cookies!

Although we don't celebrate Christmas we love to make Christmas cookies ("Plätzchen" in German) and share them with friends and family. As this is the perfect time of year to give away small and special gifts, I have been inspired to make these cute little cards with handmade cookies for my colleagues at work and thereby bring a holiday flare to the office.

The recipe for the cookies is the easiest you will find and the whole thing will not take a lot of your time.

For the cards and little Christmas trees I just recycled old gift bags (never throw away gift bags!) and punched holes through them.

If you speak German, go straight to this site for this absolutely fail-proof cookies recipe. For the rest, here is the translation plus my modification.

Ingredients:
- 100 g sugar
- 200 g cold butter
- 300 g flour
- 1 cold egg
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 200 g melted chocolate
- powder sugar for decoration

How it is done:
- Mix the sugar, butter, egg, flour, and cinnamon with your hands, form a ball, wrap in aluminium foil,  and let cool in the fridge for 30 min.
-  Roll the dough until 5 mm thick and cut out the cookies. Then make a hole in every cookie using a toothpick.
- Bake at 170 C for 10 to 15 min. The cookies will be very soft when you put them out of the oven but don't worry, they'll harden when they cool down.
- When they cool, dip one half of each cookie in melded chocolate and let cool again.
- Cover with powder sugar to add a touch of snow.

Finally, connect the card, the Christmas tree and the cookies (I combined three cookies per card) with a piece of ribbon.

I hope this will inspire you to put in some more effort this year when it comes to presents. I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciates such small but meaningful gifts.

We wish you a fresh start in the year 2014. May it be filled with happy moments, laughter, health and love! Cheers!

Love,
Emina Pin It Now!
